AUTODYSSEY
A man walking in the AUTODYSSEY 911 tee

The shirt that will, probably, change your life.

Wear it once and ordinary Tuesdays start to feel like the opening scene of a film you would actually pay to see. Sometimes, candidly, maybe not.

A Cotton Theory Of Adventure

You will be a person to whom things happen.

Here is the theory. You will pull this shirt over your head on a slow morning in some quiet city, and the day will look, in every measurable way, identical to yesterday. Same coffee. Same shoes. Same dreary news on the radio reading itself out as if anyone is still listening. Then you will walk past a small café somewhere off a square, and an elderly man with paint on his trousers will look up from his espresso and say, "Is that a 911?" He will say it the way Italians say things. With his hands.

What happens next is your problem. You may end up in his cousin's garage above a leather shop in Stuttgart, drinking something brown out of a tumbler that has seen things. You may be loaned a tired 964 for the afternoon and told, with a wink, to bring it back before the carabinieri notice. You may simply share a long, knowing nod and continue on your way. The shirt does not require you to do anything in particular. It only insists, gently, that you become a person to whom things happen.

About That Curve

Ferdinand drew it in 1963. Nobody has had the nerve to improve it since.

It is the roofline, of course. The long, falling arc that runs from the windscreen header to somewhere near the back wheel and refuses to apologise for being beautiful. We have rendered it here at scale, across the chest, in a single creamy off-white wash on a 220-gram organic black canvas. Squint and you can almost hear the air-cooled flat six clearing its throat at idle.

The Cotton, And The Small Theatre Of Its Origin

Heavy enough to drape properly. Soft enough to forget.

Long-staple Aegean cotton, combed, ringspun, garment-washed twice to take the squeak out of the fibres. Sewn in a small atelier near Porto by people who have been doing this since before fast fashion was a phrase anyone needed. The neck tape is woven, the seams are flatlocked, the hems are doubled. None of this is interesting until you have worn the shirt for two years and noticed it is still, miraculously, your favourite.

The black AUTODYSSEY box with the shirt folded inside, an enamel pin and a numbered card

Numbered. Boxed. Sent.

911 shirts. When the last one ships, that is genuinely it.

Every shirt arrives folded in a black canvas-textured box, wrapped in glassine, weighted by a small enamel pin and a numbered card. Yours might be 047. It might be 833. Either way, somebody at the workshop wrote the number in by hand, and that person had opinions about your shirt before you did. We are not the sort of people who do a second run and pretend it was always the plan.

Three Sizes, And Some Honest Advice

If you are between sizes, go up. The shirt softens, it does not stretch.

Small fits the way a small should. Medium is what most people will reach for. Large is for those of us who like a bit of room to gesture wildly while telling a story about that one time in Mulholland. The shirt is cut generously through the shoulders and kept honest through the body.

Some customers buy two. We do not discourage this.

One to wear and one to keep, untouched, in the box. We do not endorse the practice and we do not discourage it. We simply note that the shirt looks rather good on a shelf, beside a framed photograph of a car you once loved and a glass of something amber you should probably not be drinking on a Tuesday.

Cut For Everybody Who Has Ever Wanted To Drive Somewhere Just For The Sake Of It

One shirt. It is for whoever wants the road to start sooner.

Same body, same weight, same silhouette. We do not believe in a men's version of a feeling and a women's version of the same feeling. There is one shirt and it fits everybody who has ever looked at a map at midnight and thought, yes, that would be a reasonable place to have breakfast.

Where The Drawing Came From

A week with a Light Ivory 964 in the foothills outside Reno.

We photographed the same curve under a hundred different lights. The drawing on the front of this shirt is that car, traced by hand and simplified until only the essential geometry remained. Look closely at the print and you can see the faint memory of the rear quarter window, the kick of the haunch, the long quiet line of the roof. It is, in every sense that matters, a portrait.
